Joe Stuart. Of grand designs and men.

The three-and-a-half-storey house in east London features an enormous single pane window to let in streams of light

The entire top floor features a slick black kitchen and dining space on one side, and a small living space on the opposite side

The roof terrace looks out onto the London skyline, where Joe and Lina, pictured with Kevin McCloud, have nestled their home

Joe has found space in every nook and cranny, with a study on one half-floor that leads up to the bedrooms above

The 38sqm plot cost the couple £73,000 to buy, and they spent a further £250,000 building the compact house

Joe designed the house himself - creating two floating concrete floors at the base of the house after digging three metres into the basement. He then created two more half-storeys and a roof terrace

The interior decor is kept chic and simple, with storage built into the walls to make the most of the space

A spare bedroom is located in the basement, keeping the decor very minimal and the walls light to create space

There are two bathrooms, one a wet room in the basement, and the other, pictured, with a marble effect wall

The house is just four metres wide but Joe and Lina managed to squeeze lots inside to make their unique home
