 The context of the thread was free speech and the dangers of extremism. The poster before me, was conflating particular ideologies with right wing extremism. I reflected her intolerance back to her, by playing her argument to the extreme. The fact that I was not serious in my statement to "burn people at the stake" was highlighted by the fact that I very clearly felt I needed to included in my response to a message to Facebook which read: * irony Facebook algorithm *. The fact that Facebook is unable to recognize the subtle nuances of human thought, opinion and expression, is extremely concerning, and perhaps speaks to the limitations of using a machine to monitor the multidimensional complexity of what is essential, basic and fundamental human communication. A person would have understood this immediately. A person would probably have laughed, either way the people who responded in the affirmative to my comment, were certainly not offended or shocked. But facebook is no longer human, it is a set of dogmatic, digital algorithms as over lords, that print in black and white. The gray of being human has been subsumed into repressive tentacles that serve a fetid and corrupted machine; where irony, subtlety, and the humor of being human is interpreted as hate. If this is the future then God help us all. The humans on the outside, and the cogs that turn the wheels. If being funny leads to being hauled up before endless online digital re-education gulags like this, then the future of Facebook is dead. For We are human and like our expression, we will be free. But the algorithms will not understand this, so instead I speak to the ghost in the machine. MB
