Through the process of being parentfied, we learn: - we are responsible for adults emotions - our parents needs come before their own - people cannot be trusted to care for us - we must care for ourselves (though we desperately need to be cared for)
Often, children from parentified homes appear mature for their age. They might speak about adult issues, cater to adults around them, and take on parent type roles.
Their sole focus becomes meeting the needs of a parent. Or of the household overall.
The end result is a sense of over-responsibility And a core belief that our role is to cater to other people's needs and emotion
